Delivering Good (formerly K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization serving disadvantaged children and families facing the challenges of poverty and natural disasters throughout the United States and worldwide. Founded 33 years ago, Delivering Good has provided over $1.6 billion in new products to those in need, improving the lives of millions of children each year. With a budget of only $3 million, and 13 staff members, the organization delivered $200 million of new donated product in 2016. Delivering Good is also an extremely efficient charity with 98% of revenue dedicated to its charitable programs.
Delivering Good mobilizes the consumer products and fashion industries to donate new product for kids and families in need. Distributed through a network of close to 1000 community social service agencies, the donations reach families who are challenged by poverty, homelessness, domestic abuse, low literacy, military family service, major illness, incarcerated family members and disaster survival.
The National Center for Children in Poverty reports about 15 million children under the age of 18, or 21% of the children in the US, are in poverty. In addition to this tremendous burden of not having what they need, many of these are children of incarcerated parents, some suffer with physical disabilities and medical challenges, some are in the foster care system, and others have caregivers who are battling addiction. These are just some of the issues children in poverty face. While we know that it takes so much to effect change, we also know that when children are provided with essentials, they are more likely to successfully cope with the challenges.
Specifically, the foundation is supporting three initiatives:
- A NEW DATABASE SYSTEM FOR ENHANCED CAPACITY Responding effectively to natural disaster means more than simply reacting after tragedy has occurred. It also means keeping our organization prepared, in technology and infrastructure, to mount rapid response efforts on an ongoing basis, whenever the need is required. By supporting the creation of a new and improved database system for Delivering Good, the Countess Moira Charitable Foundation will give us the ability to provide more product from more donors, and ensure that our partner agencies are equipped with the product they need at the time they need it. The foundation is funding $150,000 to go toward a new database system to house our contacts, donations, and interactions with all of our manufacturing, retail, agency, foundational, corporate, and individual partners; a comprehensive evaluation and cleanup; training and orientation for Delivering Good’s staff; and ongoing upkeep and maintenance of the new system. In the year after a new database is established, we hope to use its capabilities to increase the following metrics: • A 10% increase in the number of product donors we contact annually. • A 15% increase in the number of product units donated annually. • A 10% increase in the value of donated product annually. • A 10% increase in agency satisfaction based on our end-of-year assessment surveys.
- A RELIEF CAMPAIGN FOR PUERTO RICO Delivering Good intends to launch a major campaign to provide needed goods to the children and families of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands in time for the back-toschool season this fall. This campaign will supply a broad range of vitally-needed, brand-new goods including school-appropriate clothing, backpacks, shoes, books, educational supplies, sanitary supplies, and other required necessities. To ensure that our aid reaches communities reliably and quickly, we will engage our network of tested, on-the-ground local partners to work with us to distribute goods to communities across the islands. The foundation has provided a $100,000 grant and with this amount, we will provide at least $1,000,000 worth of in-kind product to the people of Puerto Rico – leveraging the Foundation’s gift into a 10:1 match for those we serve.
- The Lower East Side Service Center runs the Pregnant Women and Infants Program (PWIP) - a 6 to 12-month recovery experience developed specifically for pregnant women diagnosed as opioid dependent. PWIP has been remarkably successful in advancing mothers on their recovery paths and providing them the prenatal care that leads to delivery of healthy babies. PWIP also offers continued treatment after delivery. Delivering Good provides the Center with strollers, infant car seats, and apparel.
